Visions Of The Future

Visions Of The Future
September 1, 2016 ahdora

I recently discovered ‘Festim Toshi’ (probably an Alias), and they had a Fashion piece tagged “Visions Of The Future”. Insanely cool stuff. The sort of creativity that has you thinking “Naija Fashion Designers, na wa for una O!”. We definitely have brilliant fashion designers in our beautiful country, but… where’s the creativity on the runway? I tried to pair each of the looks with a quote that resonates. If you’re as random as me, you’ll enjoy scrolling through. If not, I’m sorry, click on a different post.

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”

“Those who speak of progression but are afraid of change are self-repressed and therefore unable to reach any further than their eyes can already see.”

“In all the useful arts the world is either standing still or going backwards.”

“The future will look futuristic only because we will be trying to make it look futuristic.”

“You can’t stop the future
You can’t rewind the past
The only way to learn the secret
…is to press play.”

“Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.”

“I’m choosing happiness over suffering, I know I am. I’m making space for the unknown future to fill up my life with yet-to-come surprises.”

“It is by no means an irrational fancy that, in a future existence, we shall look upon what we think our present existence, as a dream.”

“The past was always there, lived inside of you, and it helped to make you who you were. But it had to be placed in perspective. The past could not dominate the future.”

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

“People were always getting ready for tomorrow. I didn’t believe in that. Tomorrow wasn’t getting ready for them. It didn’t even know they were there.”

“Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.”

“People are all over the world telling their one dramatic story and how their life has turned into getting over this one event. Now their lives are more about the past than their future.”

“Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it…”

“Listen to the people who love you. Believe that they are worth living for even when you don’t believe it. Seek out the memories depression takes away and project them into the future. Be brave; be strong; take your pills. Exercise because it’s good for you even if every step weighs a thousand pounds. Eat when food itself disgusts you. Reason with yourself when you have lost your reason.”

“You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you’ll escape one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.”
